Mariah here from mariahdolan.com, your busy mom headquarters to help you love the skin you’re in and let’s be honest—cold sores suck. Anything that turns into an angry-mean-festering-giant-weeping-blister on your FACE is the pits!

Cold sores are viruses. Viruses need to run their course much like the common cold. Fortunately there are easy-to-find simple products that have antiviral properties.

So before you consider calling in sick to work or walking around with a bag over your head, consider speeding up healing with these three steps.

ICE THE COLD SORE

Viruses don’t like cold. They like warm, moist environments which is why they love the mucus membranes of your mouth.

As soon as you get that first tingle of a cold sore coming on, put ice on it.

You can use an ice pack, a bag of frozen peas or even an ice cube. Cover your cold source with a damp washcloth so that you don’t freeze your skin. Ice your cold sore 3x/day for 5-15 minutes.

TAKE LYSINE

Lysine is an amino acid that helps block the virus from cloning itself. When a virus clones, it spreads. So lysine makes it difficult for the virus to reproduce.

Take 1,000 mg of Lysine 2x/day.

Always consult your doctor before taking any supplements.

USE TEA TREE OIL

A study showed that tea tree oil exerts an anti-viral effect on the cold sore virus if the virus is pre-treated with the oil prior to absorption.

This means tea tree oil has great prevention potential for future outbreaks and may help with current outbreaks.

Dab your lip with a cotton swab or Q-tip saturated with tea tree oil, three times per day.

Now you.

In the comments below let me know YOUR best all-natural cold sore remedy.

I’ve never had a cold sore but I used to get canker sores in my mouth quite often. I read somewhere that chewing gum can lead to canker sores in some people. I stopped chewing gum and I rarely get canker sores anymore. I still get a sore occasionally after I damage my mouth tissue but that only happens 2-3 times a year. Mouth sores in any form are never fun, thanks for the tips.

Please don’t be worried. Anybody can have cold sores at any age!

I’m so sorry to hear you’re teased because of this. Kids that tease others are insecure themselves—they’re just pushing their insecurities onto you.

Hang your head high my friend because cold sores will pass in a matter of days. Build up your immunity by eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and by drinking a ton of water <3
